On Monday, Sept. 27, the Bert C. Bach Written Word Initiative presented Michael Knight as he premiered a reading of an unreleased story.

Michael Knight has authored three novels and short-story collections, plus a book of novellas. His fiction has appeared in many media outlets, receiving praise from these reviewers and writers. He is also a professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the director of the Creative Writing program at the college.

Knight was featured at two of ETSU’s events, one which was a reading and another the following day, which was an open interview where those interested could ask questions. These events were initially in person but were moved online to Zoom for precautionary purposes.

Knight told the story from the point-of-view of a husband who was dealing with extramarital feelings, raising a teenage daughter and the pandemic all at once. Part of this story is set in a flashback to before March of 2020, but written from the husband’s room where he is quarantining, as he has a fever and his wife is concerned that he may have COVID-19.

The Bert C. Bach Initiative will continue to host events throughout the semester such as this one. The fall residency in Creative Writing is a great opportunity for all students, especially those interested in creative writing who want to receive great advice from popular authors, who can give them advice on their writing for future assignments and projects.
