The ETSU women’s golf team was in Greensboro, North Carolina, competing in the Grandover Fall Classic on Monday, Nov. 1, and Tuesday, Nov. 2.
On the first day, the team opened with strong plays. Freshman Alex Crafton (Lake Mary, Fla.) was in the overall lead after day 1 carding three on the par-5 495-yard in second-round play. Crafton sat at an even par-144 (74-70) after the first day of 36 holes.
One point behind Crafton was teammate Hollie Muse (Liverpool, England). On day one Muse posted rounds of 72-73 and 1-over-par 145.
Sitting one more point behind Muse and two behind Crafton is senior Tereza Melecka (Belcovice, Czech Republic) with a par-146.
ETSU as a whole ended day one in the lead with a 20-shot lead and South Dakota in second. After Monday, the Bucs had a combination of 26 birdies and top scores in par-3 (+1), par-4 (+26) and par-5 (-9), as well as a lead in a par-3 scoring average of 2.92.
On day two of the tournament, the Buccaneers took first place by 30 strokes. The day ended with a team score of 20-over-par 884 (296 ,292, 296).
Crafton ended her day in second place for the individual ranking. Crafton shot a 3-over 75 and a par-219 total.
Melecka took first place for the individual ranking, her second first place in a row, and her sixth collegiate win. She ended with 4-under 68 and a par-214 and a total of 12 birdies and a 4.50 average on par-5.
Muse finished the tournament in sixth place at 7-over-par 223. Sophomore Grace Chin (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) finished in a tie for eighteenth place at 19-over-par 235 tied with five other players.
This was the last tournament of the fall season for the team, ending the season with two wins, and one runner-up out of four tournaments. They will kick the spring 2022 season off on Feb. 18 at the Reynolds Invitational in Lake Oconee, Ga.
