On Nov. 1, ETSU kicked off its homecoming festivities with a circus-themed pep rally. The pep rally, which was the first in a long list of events that will take place Nov. 1-5 to commemorate “Bucky’s Big Top Carnival” homecoming theme, served to gather students, staff and faculty together to celebrate the first in-person homecoming since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re back, better than ever, and this homecoming is going to be the best yet.” said Mason Mosier, Student Government Association President.

Prior to the pep rally, students were able to visit a fair in The Quad that featured classic carnival games such as ring toss, balloon darts, golf ball-and-tee, donut on a string and giant hamster ball racing. A highlight of the event for many was the dunk tank, where attendees could try their hand at dunking SGA President Mosier, Student Activities & Organizations Director Carter Warden, and New Student & Family Programs Director Jennifer Webb.

The rally itself was hosted by emcees Calvin Claggett and Jaylen Grimes, the 2019 ETSU Homecoming King. It opened with a symphonic performance from the ETSU Marching Bucs, as well as routines from both the cheerleading squad and dance team. Appearances were also made by Dr. Brian Noland, ETSU’s president, Randy Sanders, ETSU’s head football coach, and Simon Harris, ETSU women’s basketball coach.

“We’ve taken care of every opportunity but one,” said Sanders. “A big part of the atmosphere is that you guys come there, you’re loud, you show up. We need you to be there again.”

The ETSU Homecoming Football Game will take place on Nov. 6, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Homecoming Queen candidates include Trinity Owens, Emma Fairchild, Hannah Strange, Lindsey Lung, Marissa Ballinger, Kayla Vols and Lucianna Coleburn. Homecoming King candidates include Nathan Schofield, Trey Gasteiger, Sam Frazier, Andrew Duggar, Cody Allen and Shivam Patel.
