ETSU student Kaylee Gunn has initiated a holiday card donation program for veterans in the area.
“I usually volunteer around the holidays and I know I can’t really do that right now because of COVID,” said Gunn.
Gunn’s goal for cards is 350, which is the estimated number of patients during the holiday season at the Mountain City VA. Cards can be deposited in a drop box located in the Veterans’ Affairs Office at Yoakley Hall.
“I currently work with the VA office on campus, and I come from a very large military family so the military has always been a part of my life,” said Gunn.
Thanks to a collaboration with Meade Tractor, this program has extended beyond just ETSU. Meade will be accepting holiday card drop-offs at all of their locations.
“I really want to make sure that these veterans have a good holiday because I know a lot of people can’t get visitors in the hospital right now,” said Gunn.
“Some of them probably don’t have families as well, and it’s already hard enough, so I want to make it special for them,” continued Gunn.
Gunn will be accepting cards until the final day of the semester, Dec. 9. If you are interested in donating and cannot make it to campus, email Kaylee at gunnm1@etsu.edu to arrange a meeting.
