ETSU Track and Field had their second and last home meets of the season from Feb. 3 to Feb. 5.

Following a withdrawal from the meet two weeks ago due to COVID-19 protocol, this was the second meet of the season as a whole, and for some, their first meet.

“We’re a little fitter and sharper than we were the first meet, so the expectations are going to be a little higher. Which makes you a little nervous and maybe a little tense cause you know you want to do better than you did the first meet, and you know you’re in better shape,” said head coach George Watts.

ETSU finished with nine first-place podium spots, seven-second place podium spots, and six third-place spots for the entire meet, all earned on day three except for two first-place spots on day one.

The first place spot for the men’s mile race went to senior Adam Bradtmueller (Sarasota, Florida) clocking in his mile at 4:07.03

This was Bradtmueller’s second race after a two-and-a-half-year break for injuries.

“It’s always exciting to run at home, being able to sleep in your own bed, then wake up, go to the dome and get your race in,” said Bradtmueller. “The last two years, I’ve been working at the meet because I have been hurt, so I’ve been just sitting in the in-field, helping out with different things with the operations. I’m excited to run it this year.”

Bradtmueller also was recognized as one of the Track Athletes of the Meet along with teammate junior Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tennessee) who won two first places, one in the women’s 800m race with a time of 2:14.59 and her second in the women’s mile with a time of 4:57.00.

ETSU Track and Field recognized their 19 seniors on Saturday.

The teams will be splitting up for two races on Friday, Feb. 11, and Saturday, February 12, for their next races. Some will be going to the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee, and others to the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia.
