On Sunday, May 1, all five ETSU a capella groups performed together for one last time this semester in the Martin Center Grand Hall at 5:00 p.m.

The groups that performed included Ascension, The Buc Five, Greyscale, Harmonium and Swashbucklers. Admission was $12 for adults and $5 for students.

Greyscale is a group that performs a mix of contemporary choral music and pop arrangements. On the ETSU Music department page, they state, “The select group of twelve singers who formed the group called themselves “Greyscale” to represent the non-specific type of music they perform – avoiding categorization in any clearly-defined, black-or-white genre.”

Greyscale has also released four albums thus far, ranging from a self-titled album all the way to a holiday album in 2018. They are set to release a new album in 2022, and these albums can be found on all major streaming services.

ETSU’s Ascension is a student run a capella group. They feature all styles and decades of music, and they are a co-ed music group. They competed at ICCA 2022 this year and received 3rd place honors.

The Buc Five is ETSU’s first barbershop quintet. This group is also student led, and recently announced that ETSU will be having an all-female barbershop group on campus as well called Belle Voci.

Harmonium is a student led female a capella group here at ETSU. They perform various styles of music, and they like to boast that many of their members choose to be a part of this organization while not being involved in other music groups or music majors. On their Facebook page, member Cheryl Rodriguez brags on why she loves being in Harmonium.

Rodriguez said, “I am an English and History major, and I love Harmonium because I get to express myself through music with a bunch of cool peeps!”

Lastly, The Swashbucklers are ETSU’s premier men’s acapella group. They feature a group of guys who are not afraid to show their humor alongside of their musical talents, especially on social media. They are constantly posting funny videos and photos while still posting their musical talents at the same time.

As the semester is winding down, most musical groups on campus are sending off this semester with many types of live performances. While this year’s Equilibrium has passed, check ETSU Music Department social medias to keep up with upcoming events, especially for the Fall of 2022.
