In conjunction with homecoming week, decades of past ETSU choir alumni will be coming together with current members to hold a reunion concert.

The event is set to occur on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Martin Center for the Arts. The concert is open to the public and will be free to attend.

Dr. Alan Stevens, ETSU’s director of choral activities and chair of the department of music, said that this event has been two years in the making, due to COVID-19 delays.

Stevens also said that some ETSU choir alumni have waited upwards of 30 years for this opportunity, as planning for the Martin Center goes back to the 1980’s.

“A lot of students through the decades have been told that this building was coming and that they were going to get to perform in it, but it never happened,” Stevens said. “It’s finally here and I think a lot of people want to come and sing on that stage for the first time.”

The reunion concert will take place in two parts. The first will consist of pieces performed by current ETSU choirs; the second will be the performance of the alumni choir.

Stevens also mentions that the evening will not end there.

“The very last thing we’re going to do is have all of the current students and alumni sing together for one piece,” Stevens said. “I’m really looking forward to that.”

The reunion concert will also have a special celebration for the ten year anniversary of Greyscale, ETSU’s contemporary pop acapella group.

For audience members and performers alike, Stevens is excited that the evening will provide an opportunity to reconnect, as attendees will be coming back from all different eras of ETSU history.

“The music groups really do become a lot like family through the years,” Stevens said. “It’s just going to be a cool event to… experience both the old and the new, for people to experience the Martin Center.”
