A new sports medicine clinic will be available to members of the community, treating injuries to aching joints.

The medical providers will be James Johnston M.D. and an experienced sports medicine provider, Ralph Mills M.D.

Kristen Early, from ETSU Health Marketing & Communications, shared more information about the new clinic in a press release.

“BucSports Medicine offers people of all ages a comprehensive program specializing in the diagnosis, treatment prevention and rehabilitation of injuries,” Early said. “The physicians’ primary mission is to help patients return to their daily activities as quickly and safely as possible.”

Early also said, “Services include expert orthopedic evaluation, cortisone and visco-gel injections, regenerative medicine, casting/splinting/bracing, concussion care and management, sports physicals and more.”

Cortisone and Visco-Gel injections provide relief to an arthritic joint, making movement easier for the patient. Regenerative medicines include engineering tissues in the body to replace a damaged tissue.

Earlier in the week, on Sept. 1, the clinic had a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the new facility. The ribbon-cutting was attended by ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland and Dr. Bill Block, ETSU vice president for clinical affairs.

During the ribbon-cutting event, Dr. Mills and Dr. Johnston gave tours of the clinic and showed the new advanced equipment such as guided injections, diagnostic equipment, ultrasound facility and full X-Ray capability.

Dr. Johnston’s career is extensive with experience in family and sports medicine.

“Johnston is board-certified in sports medicine and family medicine; he has an extensive military career, including deployments as a Special Forces medic,” Early said. “He is a fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine and a physician in the Army National Guard.”

Dr. Johnston said, “Come by and give us a try. I have been working in teams my entire military career, and I believe we have built one of the best teams at BucSports Medicine to provide non-surgical treatments to injuries.”

Dr. Mills is also board-certified in sports and family medicine.

“He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine,” Early said. “Dr. Mills also works with Daniel Boone and David Crockett high schools, providing sports medicine coverage.”

The BucSports medicine facility is located at 1043 Jack Vest Drive with designated parking for patients.
