Jason Davis, Basler Chair of Excellence for fall 2022, made an appearance at his first performance in Powell Recital Hall at the Martin Center for the Arts.

Davis is very passionate about and involved in climate studies, from being the director of Climate Stories Project to teaching an environmental oral history course in the Media and Communication Department.

Davis explained what the Basler Chair of Excellence entails.

“It is a fellowship program for scholars who in some way combine artistic pursuits and science or other types of scholarship,” Davis said. “I do environmental issues and music, it fits well with the kind of work that I am doing.”

Davis played three pieces, each from a personal perspective on climate change.

“I will be playing three pieces that use that technique,” Davis said. “One of them is for a solo, acoustic bass, which is my instrument. The other two will be with a larger group.”

Davis is a composer, teacher, storyteller and performer all in one.

“This performance will be my first one here,” Davis said. “Then, after that, I am doing a climate storytelling workshop called, “Tell Your Climate Story” on October 26.”

“Tell Your Climate Story” will be held at the East Tennessee Room on the second floor of the Culp Center starting at 5 p.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m.
