On Nov. 1, an interest session was held for Global Year with this year’s theme: Ecuador.

“The Global Year is an initiative to help internationalize campus and increase a sense [of] place in an interconnected world through a number of events over the year,” said Bill Duncan, associate director.

Global Year is held by the center for global engagement, engaging students, campus and community within a larger global context. The goal is to spread knowledge and encourage interest in different places around the world through a series of events.

When referring to these events, Duncan noted, “This includes curriculum, study abroad for students and faculty, cultural events, and partnerships with international institutions.”

What does Global Year: Ecuador look like on campus? Events began last spring, stretching throughout the year. This includes ETSU faculty taking students to Ecuador to take classes abroad. Monthly events, with focuses on art, music, food, shared culture, and online opportunities have also been implemented.

According to the ETSU website, “The ETSU Global Year Program is a comprehensive internationalization effort at ETSU that provides the campus, curricula, and surrounding community with a rich, complex sense of place and global interconnectedness through a year-long series of events, course enhancements, projects, and initiatives that focus on a single country.”
