ETSU’s Center for Physical Activity (CPA) reopened this past Saturday, Jan. 14, after being closed over the break for renovations. Students can expect to see some differences in the layout of the CPA when they arrive back for the spring semester, including changes to the weight room and new flooring.

“There are several renovation projects that have occurred over the break, with the largest being the weight room floor project. The floor, which is from PLAE, provides the absolute best in technology and function for our space,” said Kari Albarado, director of Campus Recreation.

Most of the changes in the weight room centered around the new flooring and providing a better space for students to exercise.

“The weight room floor features an indoor turf area that will be dedicated to functional training. This space will include TireFlip machines, AbSolo machines, battle ropes, TRX systems, rowers, sleds and really be an open space for students to use for training. The carpet by the racquetball courts has also been removed and will be replaced with this flooring,” Albarado stated.

In addition to these renovations, the CPA is also currently completing a wellness corner, that is set to open on the first floor, which will house the new Student Wellness program. More information about this program should be available as the spring semester progresses.

The CPA looks forward to students returning this week for the spring semester, and also encourages new students who may not have been to the facilities before to come and try out the new equipment.

“Everyone is welcome and belongs here at the CPA. If you are new to exercise, our group fitness classes are a great way to get started,” Albarado said. “We also provide personal training for those that may not know where to start that includes a complimentary gym orientation and consultation.”
