Nave graduated in 2020 with two bachelor’s degrees in English and journalism.
She works at Erwin Utilities as the marketing and public relations specialist. Nave has the opportunity to work alongside company leadership to share information within the community.
A work day for her consists of generating content for social media, advertisements and other promotional ventures. She enjoys working for Erwin Utilities because it allows her to think outside the box when it comes to sharing information and works with a great team of people who support her.
“Throughout my time working in journalism, I’ve worked in both print and broadcast. I worked at the Elizabethton Star newspaper for over a year and then worked at WJHL as a news producer for two years,” said Nave. “During my time as a writer, and later as a producer, I found myself drawn to the creative side of things. I loved to do feature stories and bring ideas to life. For me public relations felt like a natural next step in my career.”
The publication introduced Nave to her first real taste of journalism. She said that becoming a writer pushed her out of her shell and introduced her to all sorts of people. She stated that she learned how to tell others’ stories and bring their stories to life through print.
“During my time at the East Tennessean I covered a wide range of topics, from campus events to politics,” said Nave. “My junior year I interviewed two politicians, former Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen and Senator Marsha Blackburn. These interviews served as pivotal moments in helping me become a professional journalist.”
Nave stated she reflects on her time at the East Tennessean fondly. She said she feels like her time with the publication helped shape her into the person she is today.
