ETSU’s PartyBucs, in collaboration with the ETSU Student Government Association (SGA), held a silent disco in the Culp Ballroom on Friday, Feb. 10, from 8 to 10 p.m.

Students were provided with headsets that glowed different colors based on their song choice and danced together under flashing lights.

“We’re trying to give people a home that feel like they don’t have anywhere to go,” said Gray Crum, president of PartyBucs. “That’s been our goal ever since we started this organization.”

PartyBucs was formed just over a year ago, with their slogan being “You Matter”; this is why they host events that bring students together to provide a place to enjoy life at the university. It is an opportunity for students to get involved on campus, make friends and party in a safe, controlled environment.

The idea for the event derived from the success of the silent discos that are held every year at PREVIEW, one of the first events that new students experience at ETSU. This event is a favorite of students and leaders, which was evident in the popularity of Friday’s disco.

“We wanted to do something where there was no barrier to entry: no theme, no cost, no nothing, so you could literally just be walking to the dining hall and see us and walk in with whatever you’re wearing,” said Crum.

In the past, PartyBucs has done a few themed parties, such as their 90s Prom and Pajama Party; for this one, they wanted to try it without a theme to see which type students prefer. However, even if there is a theme, anyone is able to come.

“One big thing we like to push is that students can come as they are, however they are. It doesn’t matter how they look or what they believe; they are welcome with us,” said Crum. “Once you party with us once, if you come again, we treat you as family.”
