As a new semester starts, more opportunities arise for new and returning students to get involved on campus including one of many resources: The Wayne G. Basler Center for Physical Activity (CPA). Located near the William B. Greene Jr. Stadium, the CPA offers a variety of activities targeted for all fitness levels and interests all within their five categorized areas of Aquatics, Fitness & Wellness, Intramural Sports, Sports Clubs and Outdoor Adventure. With a new school year ahead, the CPA continues to promote a healthy pursuit of well-being with a diverse listing to enrich the ETSU community.

Assistant Director of Operations at ETSU, Jessica Mould, overlooks Campus Recreation events. For this semester, Campus Recreation hosted the Preview closing event for the second year in a row to celebrate new students and encourage the use of the CPA resources. The event consisted of ziplining, food, inflatables and yard games for students to loosen up and have fun.

“Unfortunately, the weather and lightning in the area cut the party short,” Mould said in an email. “. . . but it is always a great time seeing the incoming students have fun before classes begin.”

Always looking to cater to students’ interests, Campus Recreation also holds special events such as the “Swifties Spin,” a cycling class for Taylor Swift fans to enjoy and rhythm ride to her top hits. The class took place on Sept. 5 from 6 – 6:45 p.m. with an entrance fee of $5. Attendees were even encouraged to wear their Eras Tour merchandise as their athletic attire.

As an addition to CPA, the Wellness Corner will have its grand opening located in the building, on the first floor. What began as an SGA initiative has now come full circle when on Sept. 6, students and the ETSU public will be able to take advantage of the wellness-centered resources newly available to them.

“From nutritional wellness programs to special events like Booze Bash that will focus on safe alcohol consumption, we are really excited for students to become familiar with these programs and get involved,” Mould said.

Looking forward, Campus Recreation will hold over 85 events this semester and are already planning for the spring semester, Mould mentioned. With never-ending activities to take part in, it is never too late to start your Buc fitness journey!
