The Pride Lawn turned into a mosh pit as students, faculty and community members alike raged to beats played by a Sasquatch playing a saxophone.
The Cowboys vs. Aliens Pep Rally After Party was on Monday, Oct. 2. Saxsquatch, a famous musician dressed up as the mythical Sasquatch mixed jazz with electronic music while playing the saxophone, while performing at the Pridelawn Tent near the Amphitheater at 6:30 p.m. This followed right after the ETSU Homecoming Pep Rally in the Amphitheatre at 6:00 p.m.
“Make some noise bucs!” said Saxsquatch.
Saxsquatch performed both covers and original music including “Africa” by Toto and “One More Time” by Daft Punk. He performed his original song, Swamp Cruise, an original song about being “ghosted on Facebook.”
Audience members danced, sang and chanted along to the performance. Audience members were dressed in their best cowboy and alien costumes.
Student saxophonist, Esi Quinohes joined Saxsquath in an improvised performance. Bucky joined the stage with dance moves. Student Government Association President Trent White made an appearance as well.
“You beautiful people,” said Saxsquatch, “You sound so good.”
Strobe lights, fog, balloons and air horns were provided by Saxsquatch and his production staff: EAV. Saxsquatch performed on multiple instruments including the alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, electric cello and keyboard.
“This guy is a genius,” said ETSU student, Joe Cangelosi. “I’ve been following this guy for years.”
Earlier that morning, Saxsquatch performed in the Dining Hall as a preview for the students.
This event was planned by the ETSU Student Government Association in collaboration with PartyBucs and BucWild.
Merchandise was being sold including Captain Demo’s Hot Sauce with a big bottle being $12.99 and a small bottle being $4.99. Shirts, bandanas, vinyls, hats, hoodies, CDs and stickers were also being sold.
