While ETSU and the surrounding area are famous for the cryptids, ghosts and ghouls, it’s not a typical occurrence when a new Cryptid shows itself during the daytime. But they did!

Around 11 am on October second, students began reporting on social media about the never before seen in this are, Saxsquatch.

Saxsquatch, the saxophone playing Sasquatch was seen entering the dining hall where he played two songs and left shortly thereafter, according to John who works for the Dining Hall.

The students who’d seen it had been posting to the ETSU Snap, a snapchat account that shares posts from ETSU students, which is were the East Tennessean learned of the musician’s presence.

Unfortunately, he was gone by the time reporters arrived in the dining hall, as were most of the witnesses are far as is known.

Shortly thereafter, it was revealed via the etsu homecoming Instagram that they were there for homecoming and would be playing at the afterparty.

Part-time Cryptid full time musician, Saxsquatch has put out multiple songs and one can often stumble across his lives scrolling through Tiktok.

And of course why shouldn’t ETSU have Saxsquatch? After all, this region of the Appalachias has been famous for having the creature around it. A quick search about a map of the US with a mapping of sasquatch sightings reveals that this area from Kentucky to Georgia is a hotbed for sightings. SO big is this area, that Bays Mountain Park has been hosting an annual Bigfoot Conference, which brought in renowned researchers in 2019.

Not only did Saxsquatch bring joy and whimsy to campus, they also bring the opportunity to learn about local lore and Tennessee’s connection with Sasquatch.
