The ETSU Martin Center for the Arts is set to ring in this new year of performances with the six-time Tony Award-Winning musical comedy The Music Man.

Beloved and cherished by audiences across the country, this show promises an evening filled with unforgettable melodies, humor for the entire family and spirited storytelling.

The Music Man transports the audience into a small town in America known as River City as we follow the story of a quick-speaking salesman, Harold Hill.

He arrives determined to swindle the townspeople by selling them instruments and uniforms for a local boys’ marching band and skipping town with the money. However, his plans begin to shift as he begins to fall in love with the town’s librarian Marian Paroo, turning him from local con to a truly changed man.

With its classic score featuring hits such as “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Goodnight, My Someone,” and “Till There Was You”, this musical is sure to leave you captivated by curtain fall.

Since its initial Broadway debut back in 1957, The Music Man has enjoyed a whirlwind of success from becoming a multi time Tony winner, to numerous revivals and tours, and even inspiring a classic film adaptation.

It’s clear that the initial magic and warmth captured at The Majestic Theatre continues to resonate with audiences decades later.

A big strength of the show lies in its lively ensemble numbers and characters with such rich lines and depth. This helps to create a vibrant experience both on and off stage that captures both the comedic and heartfelt moments of the story.

For ETSU students and the greater Tri-Cities community, this performance offers the opportunity to experience a true cornerstone of Broadway history right in the heart of Johnson City.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of musical theater or new to the magic of live performance, The Music Man offers something that will resonate with you.

As the ETSU Martin Center continues its commitment to bringing high-quality theatrical productions to campus, The Music Man stands out as a joyful reminder of why classic musicals continue to captivate audiences generation after generation.
