On March 5-6, the ETSU Women’s Basketball team headed to Asheville, North Carolina, to face off against two teams in the Southern Conference Tournament. They started the conference strong with a 62-50 win against the No. 7 seed UNC Greensboro. However, that energy was not enough to carry them through as they played against Samford, the No. 6 seed. With a final score of 48-57, the Bucs were able to keep the game close throughout.

Some highlights from their first game included ETSU’s ability to keep the lead in all four quarters, never allowing UNC to get the upper hand. Emmah McAmis managed to sink three 3-pointers, but Carmen Richardson still managed to be this game’s top scorer for her team by securing 14 points. The Bucs shot 60% from the free throw line.

Moving on to the second game in the conference, this was the first time this season the Bucs had lost to Samford. They had faced off against this team twice earlier in the season, securing the win both times. Whether it be a 53-44 win or a 46-39 win, it seemed the odds were in their favor. However, it was dropped balls and missed 3-pointers that would be their downfall. The team as a whole only had 23% three-pointer accuracy.

Although the Bucs may have ended the game on a loss, their overall record finished at 18-13, with a tie for the regular season SoCon title.
