On Monday, March 9, the ETSU men’s basketball team went to Asheville, North Carolina, for the SoCon Championship with a chance to advance to the NCAA Tournament. They played against No. 6 Furman and came up short, 76-61.

The first half started out strong for both teams, earning points quickly with the score staying relatively close. After the teams tied with a score of 6-6, Furman slowly pulled ahead into the lead. Despite their best efforts, the Buccaneers were unable to catch up. The final score at the end of the first half was 42-35, with Furman in the lead.

The second half began and ETSU knew they needed some solid teamwork to catch up. Cam Morris III started off with the first point of the half, giving the Buccaneers the confidence they needed to keep playing. Unfortunately, Furman was too far ahead and pushed into an even further lead. Despite the Buccaneers best efforts, Furman stayed ahead and won the SoCon Basketball Championship with a score of 76-61.

On March 15, Selection Sunday, the NCAA will decide which teams will play in the March Madness tournament. Though the Bucs won’t make that tournament, they remain hopeful for other postseason opportunities.
