The Buccaneers dropped a heartbreaking matchup against Tennessee Tech on Tuesday, March 10, at Betty Basler Field in Johnson City, tallying on a loss to their now 11-6 record on the season. Tennessee Tech came out swinging with an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, and the Bucs were never able to recover from it. This is the first midweek meeting of the season that the Buccaneers have lost. The Golden Eagles took this one home 12-0 against the Buccaneers.
This loss comes at a critical time in the season. The Buccaneers had just split a set of games at the Winthrop Invitational with a loss to Georgia State and a victory against Bucknell. This game’s purpose was to serve as a midweek tuneup before the Buccaneers continue non-conference play. The ladies continue to work towards the beginning of conference play later in March.
ETSU struggled with generating offense against the Golden Eagle’s pitching, and against a solid batting lineup that was consistently sending runners to base. The Buccaneers had their offensive pushes limited to short rallies and scattered hits, nothing like the runs that we have seen previously this season.
While ETSU may have lost this matchup, they can head into their next game looking to improve their record with a chip on their shoulders. The Bucs will be traveling to Virginia to face Lafayette on Friday, March 13. More information can be found at etsubucs.com/sports under the softball tab.
