The 19th-ranked ETSU men’s golf team ended the 2000 fall season with their best finish (see box at left) of the year at the Rolex/ Golf World/ Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational held in Hilton Head, S.C., over the weekend.
The ETSU golf players fall season statistics are:
Pat Beste: The senior from Sauk Center, Minn., had a 73.1 stroke average in 15 rounds.
His best round was a 69 (-3), which he achieved in the first round of the Tennessee Tourn-ament of Champions and in the first round of the Golf World Invitational. His best individual finish was a tie for 18th at the Golf World Invitational with a three day total of 211 (-5).
Anders Hofvander: The freshman from Bjarred, Sweden had a 78.0 stroke average in 12 rounds.
His best round was 73 (+1) in the second round of the Tennessee Tournament of Champions. Hofvander’s best individual finish was a tie for 52nd in the same championship.
James Johnson: The sophomore from Barbados had a stroke average of 74.0 in nine rounds of play.
His best round was 71 (-1) in the second round of the Ridges Intercollegiate. Johnson’s best individual finish also came in The Ridges Intercollegiate when he finished in a tie for 20th.
Thomas Lee: The sophomore from Tenafly, N.J., had a 73.9 stroke average in 15 rounds of play.
His best round was 69 (-3) in the first round of the Tennessee Tournament of Champions. Lee had two top-20 finishes on the season, with a 15th-place finish in the Tennessee Tournament of Champions and a 16th-place finish in the Carpet Capital Classic.
Adam Riddering: The sophomore from Maple Grove, Minn., had a 75.1 stroke average in 15 rounds of play.
Riddering’s best round came in the Tennessee Tournament of Champions with a 69 (-3) in the first round. His best individual finish was at the Carpet Capital Classic where he finished in a tie for 31st.
Chris Wisler: The two-time NCAA All-American from Dover, Del., had the team-best 71.4 stroke average in 15 rounds of play.
Wisler led the Bucs to a fifth-place finish at the Golf World Invitational with a three-round total of 201 (-15). It was also good enough for a third place individual finish.
The same tournament marked two career records for Wisler. His 64 (-8) in the third round bested his single-round score and his total 201 marked his best three-round score.
Previously, his best single round was 67, which he achieved three times in the past. His previous best three-round score was a 206 when he won the 2000 BellSouth Intercollegiate.
In all but one of his tournaments this season, he finished in the top 20.
Wisler hopes to become the third Buccaneer in ETSU history to earn All-American honors three times.
The only other Bucs to do so were Garrett Willis (1994-96) and Keith Nolan (1995-97).
