The men’s basketball team picked up their first win of the season Friday night, 65-42, in Brooks Gym against the Lynchburg Hornets.
Outmanning the Hornets in both numbers and size, the Bucs committed 26 turnovers and missed 11-of-16 free throws.
The Buc defense made up for the offense, however, forcing four shot-clock violations.
They added 10 steals and outrebounded the Hornets 46-26.
Senior Adrian Meeks led the Bucs with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Meeks went 7-of-9 from the field, blocked one shot and had one of the Bucs’ steals.
The Bucs took an early 13-2 lead with Meeks scoring six of the points.
The first half was troublesome for the Buc freshman.
Sam Oatman missed two open shots and had five turnovers.
Cory Seels was overwhelmed early in the game, but came back and easily picked up two baskets to get in the scoring column.
Zakee Wadood had a big impact on the Buc effort. Wadood had five rebounds – three offensive – scored four points, blocked three shots and had three steals in 19 minutes of play.
In the second half Dimeco Childress led the Bucs on a 12-point run, nine of which were his.
D. J. McDuffie dropped in a three-pointer to round out the scoring.
McDuffie had the second-highest point total with 10.
