The College of Education was examined recently for continuing accreditation by the NCATE Board of Examiners.
The examiners met with representatives from the University at the Adelphia Centre at Millennium Park on Oct. 31.
The group is deciding whether to continue with accreditation for the college of education. The school will most likely know by April whether or not they will retain accreditation.
According to board member Ken Murray, people from all over the United States will be making the decision that will have a major impact on the College of Education.
“There are 450 members of the Board of Examiners,” Murray said. “About one-third are from the Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, about one-third are K-12 classroom teachers and about one-third are from specialty organizations.”
At the meeting, the examiners had a general discussion with recent graduates, graduate students and student teachers before breaking into groups to ask some questions.
If ETSU does get the continued accreditation, Murray says the school will definitely benefit from it.
“With continued accreditation, they will have a much better chance of finding the best jobs,” he said. “This is to help the university.”
The Board of Examiners will report their findings, but they will not have the final say in whether accreditation goes through or not.
“We are the eyes and ears of the accreditation board,” Murray said. “We look for facts, figures, thoughts and ideas.
