Two ETSU senior football players earned Southern Conference players of the week for their performance in the game against sixth-ranked Furman Saturday.
Buc quarterback Todd Wells was awarded Offensive Player-of-the-Week, while linebacker Rahim El Amin was named co-Defensive Player-of-the-Week.
Wells had one of the best offensive games in ETSU history. He threw 23-of-44 for 336 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Wells ran for 65 yards and added six points to the Buc score with a touchdown.
Wells, an All-Conference candidate, ranks second in ETSU’s all-time single game list with his passing yardage and 401 yards total offense.
In the 2000 season Wells has a total of 1,696 yards on 119-of-216 passing and is second in rushing on the team (259 yards).
Falling behind former ETSU quarterback Greg Ryan by 523 yards, Wells is second on ETSU’s all-time career list with 7,709 yards total offense.
El Amin had a total of 12 tackles (10 solo), including one for lost yards, in the Bucs victory Saturday.
The inside linebacker was also responsible for three Furman turnovers – he tipped a Paladin pass for an interception and helped Russ Lindgren make an interception off of a bad throw.
El Amin also made the play of the game in the fourth quarter when, down by seven, he forced Louis Ivory to fumble on the Bucs 1-yard line. ETSU then had a 96-yard drive to bring them within one point of tying the game.
El Amin leads the team in total tackles and solo tackles, 76 and 55, respectively.
He ranks second in tackles for loss with eight and had 1.5 sacks.
Four broken passes, a forced fumble and recovered fumble for a touchdown have all been recorded by El Amin.
