ETSU students now have an alternative to skipping lunch because of a hectic class schedule.
Cafe Biblio, a new Aramark kiosk between Sherrod Library and Rogers-Stout Hall, is the perfect place for students to drop by and grab a bagel and coffee between classes and not spend all of their hard-earned cash.
“The cafe started in response to everybody congregating there,” said Charlie Whitman, Aramark food service director. “We were wanting something to spruce up the area as well.”
The kiosk began earlier this year and has steadily been gaining popularity.
“It’s a nice area … there’s such good traffic out there,” Whitman said.
Prices at the cafe are very college student-friendly, with items on the menu costing no more than $2.
A cup of Starbucks coffee in a choice of two or three flavors runs only $1.25. Jackie Curd, an Aramark employee, decided to take on the job of running the cafe.
“They needed someone, so I decided to do it,” Curd said.
Curd has worked in the Atrium, but of late has had the responsibility of opening Cafe Biblio in the mornings as well as closing down both the cafe and the Atrium food services.
“I’ve worked in the Atrium. I really do miss it,” Curd said. “One thing I do miss, I miss talking to the football players.”
The weather has been kind to Cafe Biblio, only giving the main campus three rain days this semester. It’s location has proven to be profitable as well.
“When the weather is good, I really like it, and some days we even pull in a couple of hundred dollars,” Curd said.
One tasty item’s poplarity has been spread around campus among students and staff alike.
“You’ve got to try the barbecue sandwich,” Curd said. “Every-one’s been told about it, even the physical plant workers.”
Students can take advantage of Cafe Biblio’s goods from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
