BRISTOL – Korea’s National Folk Ballet, “The Little Angels,” will perform at 7:30 Friday evening at the Paramount Center for the Arts located on State Street.
The group of 40 dancers is comprised of girls between the ages of 7 and 15 who have been specially selected and trained in Korean folk arts. Since its creation in 1965 the troupe has given more than 5,000 performances in more than 50 countries and has performed at the UNICEF Festival at the Hague in Holland.
When the company is not touring, members spend more than three hours a day at the Little Angels Arts Center training and practicing. The Center is both a home and a school to the company.
The group’s repertoire is based on the traditional styles and is steeped in ancient folklore and legends. Many of the songs and dances performed in the ballet originated as far back as 2000 years ago.
Among the dances to be presented are the Mask Dance, the Penitent Monk, the Hourglass Drum Dance and the Fan Dance. Also included will be selections from the Moon Festival, the Flower Festival and a traditional wedding ceremony.
This performance of the Little Angels is sponsored by Speedway Children’s Charities.
Tickets are on sale at the Paramount Box Office at $8 for adults and $4 for children. For reservations, call the box office at (423) 247-8920.
