Books about women’s issues are being reviewed and discussed by the Women’s Resource Center every third Wednesday from 12-1 p.m.
This group, which serves female faculty, staff, students and community members, has been meeting since June 1999 and is still going strong. The group’s purpose is to read books written by women or about issues and concerns faced by women. They discuss non-fiction, fiction and self-help books.
Some of the books that have been reviewed in the past include Winona’s Web by Pricilla Cogan, The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, Something More by Sarah Ban Breathnach, and many more. The book for review in February is Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani.
“This book reviewing group provides not only opportunities for women, but it’s a valid avenue toward our expression in the community as well as on campus when it comes to discussing issues in the community,” said Harriet Masters, director of the Women’s Resource Center and one of the group’s creators. “This was a much-needed program in the community and now is a very successful one .”
The Women’s Resource Center is located in Panhellenic Hall, Basement Suite Two and is open to the public. For more information, call 439-7847.
