ETSU will host the 16th annual national art exhibition entitled “Positive/Negative Sweet Sixteen” beginning Feb. 5 and running through March 3. The exhibition will be held in the Slocumb Galleries, located in Ball Hall.
This art competition will host the works of 58 artists from across the United States. It was open to all artists residing in the United States, excluding those affiliated with ETSU. Awards of up to $2,000, as well as honor awards will be given. These awards prompted the 152 entries received for the competition.
There are works that represent various fields of the aesthetic arts including, but not limited to, fiber arts, photography, paintings, ceramics, prints and sculptures. The juror for this year’s competition is renowned scholar of art Philip Morsberger. His career has led him to study in places such as Oxford’s Ruskin School of Drawing, the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, La Grande Chaumiere in Paris and the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.
Before the exhibit’s opening reception in Slocumb galleries on Feb. 7, Morsberger will deliver a free public lecture at 5 p.m. in Ball Hall. ETSU will also host an open house with tours of the art studios and the new graphic design computer lab.
