ETSU sophomore forward Misty Copas registered a career-high 21 points, but it was not enough to stop the hot-shooting Lady Catamounts as they defeated the Lady Bucs, 95-68, Saturday afternoon at the Ramsey Center.
Five Lady Cats scored in double figures Saturday night in the Ramsey Center to snap an ETSU two-game winning streak.
Freshman Tiffany Hamm recorded a career high 24 points and six assists to lead the team.
Junior Laura Echols joined her with 23 points. Echols also led the game in rebounds with eight.
The Cats jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first eight minutes of play with a steal and layup by sophmore Christy Blackwell at the 11:37 mark.
Senior April Fleck banked in a three-pointer at the 9:36 mark to make the lead 17.
ETSU threatened a comeback at the end of the first half with consecutive layups by Copas and Jessica Lonon to bring the game within 11 at the half, 42-31.
The Lady Bucs came back to a five-point game at the 18:03 mark of the second half.
However, a pair of three throws by Echols and a jumper by Hamm put WCU ahead by 11 and would not let ETSU back in the game.
In the following nine minutes of play, WCU went on a 23-10 run putting it out of reach for ETSU.
Also scoring in double figures for the Lady Cats were sophomore Marsha McGillivary with 15, Fleck with 13 and freshman Janetta Heggins with 11.
ETSU’s Copas scored her career high on nine-of-10 shooting from the field.
Senior guard Chris Forman joined her in double figures with 16.
The Lady Bucs will face the UNC-Greensboro Spartans in their final home game of the season on tonight at 7 p.m.
