As some of you already know, the East Tennessean is a student-run newspaper that publishes twice a week and is distributed all over campus. But I wanted to take some time to reintroduce this newspaper to the faculty, staff, students and student organizations of ETSU.
I would also like to point out that we are not the same newspaper now that we were a few years ago.
I have always had wonderful dreams for the East Tennessean and all that I believe that it can accomplish for this university. I feel as though we have grown significantly throughout the past year and I am proud of all that we have accomplished. But what I have come to realize is that the East Tennessean can never really grow without you.
The worst thing in the world for me is to hear people sincerely be upset about the East Tennessean because of a lack of coverage. The East Tennessean has always been open to story ideas and article submissions. But I am not sure how many people realize this bit of information.
The students who work for this publication all go to class, hold down other jobs and fight for parking spaces just like everybody else. Although, what makes us unique is that our organization not only gives students a hands-on learning experience, but also comes with the responsibility to provide a service to every other student organization on this campus.
This newspaper is here for you! But on such an active campus, between classes and homework, it is sometimes easy to miss something. This is where you come in.
I want to extend an open invitation to everyone on this university to get involved with the East Tennessean and help us help you. We want to be involved on campus and cover as many relevant topics as possible. Let us know if your organization has something planned during the upcoming week. Give us a call if you see something on campus that you think needs attention. Send us letters to the editor and let us know your opinion. Get involved.
Send your articles, story ideas, and letters to the editor to eteditor@etsu.edu. You can also call our editor’s desk at 439-4387. We are here to serve you.
