I have had heard more and more complaints about student parking this year.
With all the construction going on and less and less parking, people are wondering when this madness will end.
The ETSU parking Web site states, “Due to limited parking spaces, issuance of a parking permit does not assure a parking space.” Well isn’t that the truth.
When you live off campus you obviously have to fight your way into a space. Especially if you take later classes, like most students do. I mean who wants to get up at six in the morning to fight for a parking spot.
Yet day after day it continues. I have heard maintenance personnel complaining about parking and they have reserved spaces for service vehicles. That seems a bit over the top to me when the people with reserved spots do not even have a place to park. They have to fight the crowd like the rest of us.
I could only imagine if I had a disability and could not get into a space because they were all taken.
The fact is that most people who live on campus most likely have a car and park it close to their dorms, but the majority of students are commuters who live off campus.
With all the construction that has been taking place I can understand that it can be a challenging thing to work it out so that there is enough space available for everyone.
It is very unfair to the students, faculty and others who have to come on campus everyday.
To some it is the fact that they have to walk a good way to class every morning but my concern in how are you going to get to class if there is nowhere for you to park. The parking violations have become more fierce and some penalties are steeper, and yet the space to park has been depleted.
Yes, Americans tend to take the easy way out and not want to walk. but that is not my point at all.
There is just simply not enough space to accommodate the number of students who drive to school or live on campus.
The first day of class a friend of had to park in the McDonald’s parking lot and even last year I had to park in the parking garage across the street. That is absurd to me. There needs to be a better solution for students who commute.
I am not complaining about the walk to class. My point is that there needs to be more spaces for students to park so they can make it to class and on time.
