Dear Editor,
In regards to the smoking ban, I don’t honestly care what President Stanton’s motivation was. I really appreciate being able to walk on campus without having to worry about my asthma getting triggered off by smoke blowing in all directions from someone’s lit cigarette, not having to be so vigilant in watching for smokers, and not having to hold a dust mask to my face so I can breathe when I came upon a smoker.
That is until yesterday, when one girl lit one up next to the Culp Center, and today, when I had to walk through smoke on the porch of Sam Wilson Hall where a young man was puffing away in violation of the ban.
When I mentioned the ban, I was completely ignored. If there weren’t a ban, he would have been violating the rule banning smoking on that porch, near the ramp, too close to the door, which is also a violation of state law. Fellow students, even if you don’t like them, rules and laws are just that, and we are all obligated to obey them.
Everyone on campus will breathe easier.
