Junior keeper Megan Masch (Virginia Beach, Va.) stepped up and made an incredible save on a Stetson penalty kick in the final minute as the ETSU women’s soccer team knocked off the Hatters 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium. “This was a great win for us coming off of a tough loss on Friday,” said head coach Heather Henson. “Again we had a complete effort from our players as we were able to get most of the girls into the game. I also thought our seniors stepped up their play in their final home match and played well.”

With the win, the Bucs (7-6-1, 3-4-0 A-Sun) snapped a four-game skid and now move into the sixth spot for the Atlantic Sun tournament with three games to go. ETSU outshot Stetson (6-8-1. 3-3-1 A-Sun) 20-9 in the contest putting six shots on frame, while the Buccaneers had a 5-3 edge in corners.

ETSU went in front 1-0 in the 38th minute as Ramey Kerns (Kings Mountain, N.C.) settled the rebound from a Kelly Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla.) shot and netted a shot from 15-yards out. The goal was Kerns sixth of the season.

The score would remain 1-0 at the half as the Bucs outshot the Hatters 7-2 in the first half.

Stetson tied the game at 1-all in the 71st minute when Sarah Mathews one-timed a pass from Tessa Gavilsky past Masch into the goal.

The Bucs answered quickly though as freshman Kayla White (Virginia Beach, Va.) took advantage of a Stetson miscue defensively and slotted a shot past the Hatters Andrea Garavaglia on the ground for her third goal of the season.

In the 90th minute, Stetson drew a penalty kick as an ETSU defender was called for a foul in the box.

Masch guessed correctly on the penalty kick as she made a diving save on the shot by Alyssa Welsch to give the Bucs the win.

ETSU returns to action on Friday at 7 p.m. as the Bucs head to Macon, Ga. to face A-Sun foe Mercer.
