The ETSU Lady Bucs returned home for a five-game home stand and opened up play against the Lipscomb Bisons on Saturday afternoon. ETSU came out firing and never gave Lipscomb a chance to get the game going. The Lady Bucs had six players score in double figures, giving ETSU the 95-64 win over Lipscomb.
“We have been working a lot in practice to come out and play our game,” ETSU point guard Tara Davis said.
ETSU started strong with a quick 12-point run before Lipscomb was able to put any points on the board. Lipscomb struggled to score and shot only 28 percent inside the arch compared to ETSU’s 46 percent.
The Lady Bucs didn’t look back stretching the lead to as much as 18 before halftime, leading 45-28.
“Our bench really worked hard after we got into foul trouble early,” head coach Karen Kemp said. “Lately they have really come into their own and gotten their confidence up.”
The second half saw the woes of Lipscomb continue, as shot after shot failed to go in. ETSU continued to dominate on both sides of the ball.
The Lady Bucs’ starters even got a chance to sit on the bench and rest while the freshman showed why coach Kemp brought them to ETSU.
The Lady Bucs coasted in for a commanding 31-point victory, the most in a regular season game this year.
“It felt good to be able to help my team like I did,” said high scorer Jasmine McIntosh. She finished with 21 points coming off the bench. “I worked hard during practice to show I could play.”
Davis, a senior, finished with 17 points. Freshmen Destiny Mitchell and Shawn Randall finished with 12 and 14 points, repectively. While Gwen Washingon scored 11 and junior Natalie Pickwell finished the game with 10.
ETSU returns to action tonight at home in the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Complex against the Belmont Bruins. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
