The ETSU baseball team played Radford on March 29 in Johnson City and won by a slim margin, with a final score of 6-5.

This was not a conference game for the Bucs, who just returned home after being on the road for their last four games against Winthrop and Western Carolina.

The Bucs have an overall record of 11-12 and a conference record of 1-2 for the 2016 season.

Their most recent series was against Western Carolina in Cullowhee, North Carolina, in which ETSU won one and lost two.

The Western Carolina series was the first conference matchup of the season for the Bucs, who have played ten non-conference opponents so far this season.

At the end of the 2015 season, the Radford Highlanders had an overall record of 45-16 and a conference record of 20-4. Currently, they have an overall record of 6-18 and a conference record of 1-2.

When the two teams met in the 2015 season, the Highlanders won the game 7-4.

Radford recently faced their first conference opponent, as well, winning one out of the three games played.

The Radford game was a good test of the Bucs’ skills at this point in the season, before they face their next conference opponent, Furman, on April 1.

Out of all the times the two teams have met, they have won an equal number of games. With their win, the Bucs now hold a one-game advantage over Radford.

In the first inning, sophomore Hagen Owenby (Knoxville, Tenn.) got the first run for ETSU. Radford also got one run, and the teams remained tied until the fourth.

At the bottom of the fourth inning, senior Kevin Phillips (St. Louis, Mo.) scored a homerun for the Bucs, giving them a slight lead over the Highlanders.

However, in the seventh inning, Radford scored three runs, stealing the lead.

ETSU quickly came back and tied the game in the eighth inning. Kevin Phillips (St. Louis, Mo.), Lance Mays (Ridgely, Tenn.) and Seth Cunningham (Bristol, Va.) all scored for the Bucs.

In the final inning, senior Trey York (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored on a throwing error, giving the win to the Bucs.

The Bucs will next face Furman in a conference matchup.  The teams will play three games on April 1-3 in Johnson City.
