The ETSU men’s tennis team competed in two tournaments this past week, the first being the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the second being the Louisville Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky.

The ITA All-American Championship went through Monday, Oct. 7 to 8. Only one of the Bucs competed in this tournament, that athlete being junior Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia). Rengifo passed the first round of the tournament after a straight-set win against Matthew Terry (CSU). Rengifo best Terry 6-3, 6-1.

Rengifo went on to play in the second round on Oct. 8 against Tadeas Paroulek (TCU), where Rengifo fell to Paroulek 4-6, 4-6, which ended his time in the ITA All-American Championship.

The men’s team then traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the Louisville Invitational from Oct. 11 through Oct. 13. The Buccaneers walked away with 11 wins in singles, and three wins in doubles.

Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) claimed the championship in singles.

Junior Yusuf Khamis (Cairo, Egypt) and Junior Dylan Bednarczyk (Ontario, Canada) played in the A Singles Draw. Khamis finished with two wins against CSU 6-2, 6-3 and Kennesaw 6-4, 6-4 and one loss against MTSU with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 10-5. Bednarczyk finished with one win against Lipscomb 1-6, 6-2, 10-5.

The B Singles Draw was played by senior Miguel, Este (Caracas, Venezuela) and senior Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela). Este won his first match against Clement Filho (Louisville) with a score of 6-4, 6-4 but lost his second match. Lugo won his first two matches and lost his third.

Badra played in the C Singles Draw where he won all four matches, which resulted in the overall championship win for his category. The E Singles Draw was played by Chris Mikrovas (Athens, Greece) where he won his first match and lost his second match.

Bednarczyk and Mikrovas played together in doubles but were unable to find success.

Khamis and Lugo played together in doubles where they went two for one in matches.

The last ETSU doubles group was played by Badra and Este. The two won their first match against MTSU 6-2.

The tennis team will play again in the ITA Regionals from Oct. 24 tom 28.
