Do you need your little Buccaneer taken care of while you’re in class?

ETSU’s child care program, Little Bucs, is available specifically for children of ETSU students ages 3 months to 5 years. The program is beneficial, not only to the children that attend, but also the teachers and students who learn from them and the parents who are working for their degrees.

“All our families that go here are ETSU students, and many of them could not be in school if we did not have Little Bucs, because child care is hard to find or its unaffordable,” said Beth Huber, Little Bucs’ on site director. “We hear over and over from parents about how they couldn’t do it without us here.”

The program is run by full-time teachers, students of various studies such as field-work and observation, and student assistants for extra support.

The program’s education is founded on the basic principles of the Reggio Approach, which is a philosophy of early education that focuses on community, environment, curriculum and respecting a child’s pace of learning.

“For the children, we are providing a safe, healthy and loving environment for them,” said Huber. “We have a really strong social and emotional focus in our program, and we believe in teaching the children about self-regulation, self-confidence, how to speak up for themselves and how to talk to others.”

Tuition rates for children 3 months to 2 years is $7 per hour, and tuition for children 3-5 years is $6 per hour.

For families who need additional support, Little Bucs has received grants to assist undergraduate students who are eligible for a pell grant. The Department of Human Services can help meet fee payments, too.
