The Office of Student Financial Aid is helping students complete the 2020-21 FAFSA through FAFSA Frenzy events, two of which happened on Oct. 23 and 24 in Sherrod Library.

Students who still need help filling out their FAFSA can meet TRIO Support and financial advisors from 3 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the ETSU Millennium Center. You can register for the FAFSA Frenzy online.

Students and their parents should remember to bring social security numbers, alien registration numbers (if not a U.S. citizen), 2018 federal income tax returns, 2018 W-2s and other records of money earned, bank statements, records of investments and records of untaxed income.

“It is important to note that, as an office, we understand that the financial aid process can be confusing for students,” said Blake Hopson, associate director of student financial aid. “We want each student to know the support they have in our office with advisors and with the chatbot and financial aid support videos available 24/7 on our website. We want to get the word out that all students have support with us, and it is crucial to helping them navigate this process.”

The university will provide refreshments, and there will be giveaways and prize drawings. Students who have already completed the 2020-21 FAFSA will also be entered to win several great prizes.

“If you come to the FAFSA Frenzy on Oct. 29, I promise it will not just be, ‘Come on in and fill out your FAFSA,'” said Hopson. “We are going to give you the real ETSU experience and answer any questions you may have.”

The FAFSA is necessary for all federal financial aid, as well as an important aspect for many state and school aid programs. Funds, including the Pell Grant and HOPE scholarship, will not be available to students without a completed FAFSA. Filing FAFSA as soon as possible is crucial, as some funds are first come first served.
