The ETSU women’s soccer team fell to The Citadel in the first round of the SoCon Tournament on Oct. 30. ETSU was No. 8 in the conference, while Citadel was No. 9. The team lost a hard fought game 1-0.
The Bucs ended the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 5-11-4 and a conference record of 1-6-2.
The Bucs made an impressive three shots in the first three minutes and continued to dominate the first half of the game.
Freshman Anjela Kricak (Krusevac, Serbia) made the best effort of the three shots but was unable to make a goal when freshman goalkeeper Brie Sikes from Citadel stopped her shot.
Along with Kricak, graduate student Pamela Penaloza (Bogota, Colombia) made shots on the goal without any success, while junior Sarah Connolly (Bollygowan, Northern Ireland) attempted to keep the Bulldogs’ keeper at a distance.
ETSU dominated the offense, making impressive plays and with an even more impressive shot counter against The Citadel in the first half at an 8-4 advantage.
Goalkeeper sophomore Tess Mrozek (Johnson City, Tennessee) made two saves on goal in the first 45 minuets of the game.
The Bulldogs scored a goal in the 60th minute of the game, advancing the scoreboard for the first time at 1-0.
Despite many shot attempts from junior Beatrice Abati (Milan, Italy) and sophomore Kendall King (Charlotte, North Carolina) the Buccaneers could not get to the back of the net.
The Citadel’s defense continued to shut down attempts made by the Bucs denying them of tiring the score.
The seniors Elena Pisano (Milan, Italy), Kourtney Gaylord (Mooresville, North Carolina) and Allie Duggan (Boca Raton, Florida) and graduate student Penaloza performed for the last time of their careers as Buccaneers.
The Bucs will be back in action next year in the fall of 2020.
