Men’s soccer defeated the Wofford Terriers 2-1 on Nov. 2 after going into overtime. The Bucs now have a conference record of 4-2.

This final home game before the SoCon tournament also served as Senior Day to honor the six senior players on the team.

The Bucs dominated the Terriers from the beginning, with six shots out of the Terriers two within the first 20 minutes of the half.

Senior Luke Parker (Memphis, Tennessee) got a shot that made its way past the Wofford goalkeeper, which bounced off the left post and to the feet of freshman Hauk Andreas Fossen (Moelv, Norway). Fossen lost no time driving the ball back into the net for the first goal of the match in the 22nd minute.

Neither team had success in scoring for the rest of the half, with the Blue and Gold outshooting their opponents 13-4. Only one of the four shots sent by Wofford had any chance of making a goal, with the rest being easily taken care of by redshirt sophomore Josh Perryman (Sheffield, England).

In the second half, it became evident that Wofford was not going to back down without a fight. The Terriers obtained their only goal in the game as a result of a penalty kick 60 minutes into the game.

After equalizing the score, both teams played with equal intensity until the game ended with the same 1-1 draw.

Overtime claimed the game for the Blue and Gold in less than a minute and a half with a shot by freshman Kieran Richards (Hamilton, New Zealand) with an assist by freshman Lucas Lightener (Clarksville, Tennessee).

The Bucs outshot the Terriers 17-11 with 7-5 on goal over the course of the match.

“I think we played the first half really well,” said coach David Casper. “We came out of half time not as great and not as sharp. Credit to Wofford. I think they changed up a couple things and put us on our heels a little bit but we responded very well and were able to come back and put the final product and get a goal.”

The SoCon tournaments begin for the Bucs on Nov. 8 against UNCG in Greensboro, North Carolina, where kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
