On Jan. 23, 25 and 26, the music scene in downtown Johnson City will be packed with action and a diverse series of groups coming to Capone’s and the Down Home. One of the three headlining groups is the Amanda Cook Band performing at the Down Home on Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

“I acquired a love of bluegrass from my father who played banjo throughout my childhood,” Cook said. “In early 2007, I formed bluegrass group High Cotton with my father and received my first taste of performing, fueling a fire to continue on to a professional level. Both originally from small towns in Florida, Carolyne VanLierop-Boone and I started this band together in late 2013 with us signing to Mountain Records Fever Records in 2017.”

The current touring band includes: Amanda Cook (Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitar), Carolyne VanLierop-Boone (Banjo), George Mason (Fiddle), Josh Faul (Bass), Aaron Foster (Lead Guitar) and Troy Boone (Mandolin).

“Each band member brings incredible talent and our close friendships are clear on and off the stage,” Cook said.

Johnson City is home to two members of the Amanda Cook Band, Troy Boone and Aaron “Frosty” Foster. Both members are ETSU alumni and enjoyed the area with it’s rich bluegrass and country music history through their time in college.

“The Down Home has always been on my bucket list of venues to perform at, and the band is so excited to be there,” Cook said.

Also performing and headlining at the Down Home is Western Centuries, a self-proclaimed urban honky-tonk super group with songs ranging from all sorts of country music fusion. Western Centuries is comprised of Nokosee Fields (bass) along with Calahen Morrison, Ethan Lawton and Jim Miller as the three principle songwriters. Western Centuries is performing on Jan. 23 at 8 p.m.

On Jan. 25, Capone’s is holding a triple header with rock group Awake at Last, a progressive rock band with an aggressive blend of radio rock and pop melodies, headlining their event. Awake at Last features Vincent Torres (vocalist), Eric Blackway (guitarist), Tyler Greene (bassist) and Bryan Mills (drummer).

Tickets for the Amanda Cook Band and Western Centuries start at $15 at the Down Home. Advance tickets for Awake at Last at Capone’s start at $10.
