The women’s basketball team suffered defeat at the hands of the Wofford Terriers on Saturday, January 18 on their home turf in Brooks Gym with a final score of 76-47. This set the team back with a 6-13 disadvantage for the regular season, and 1-3 for SoCon, while Wofford remains undefeated so far.

Wofford began racking up their points from the beginning of the first set, obtaining a 6-0 lead before Buccaneer junior Tijuana Kimbro (Memphis, Tennessee) stepped up to gain 4-0 run for the Buccaneers, which eased up the score to two points. 

The Blue and Gold shot 19-50 (38.0%) from the field with 2-12 (16.7%) from behind the arc. The Terriers, leading in all aspects, finished 30-67 (44.8%) from the field, and 6-21 (28.6%) from behind the arc. The score was 20-7 at the end of the quarter in favor of the Terriers after they went on a pair of runs to secure themselves a solid lead.

The second quarter came to an end with the Terriers still in the lead by 12 point with a 37-25 score.

During the first minute of third quarter, the visitors took three baskets from the paint to increase their advantage to 18. Out scoring the Buccaneers 20-5. The Terriers scored six points off of the Bucs’ turnovers and shot 53.3% from the field in the quarter.

During the fourth, Wofford extended their lead to 30. ETSU traded baskets throughout the fourth, losing the final frame 19-17 as the Bucs dropped their second straight at home 76-47.

Junior Micah Sheetz (Knoxville, Tennessee) remains in the spotlight with this being her 18th game in a row to score points in the double digits with 14 points this go round. Close behind her, Kimbro scored 10 points and gained three rebounds, while sophomore Kaia Upton (Nashville, Tennessee) collected eight points.

The Blue and Gold are scheduled to face the Mercer Bears in Macon, Georgia, on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.
