The JCPenney Suit-Up event will take place Sunday at The Mall at Johnson City from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. ETSU students can receive up to 60% off select men’s and women’s career apparel, shoes and accessories.

Other opportunities include a free consultation or mini makeover with Sephora inside JCPenney, a free hair consultation and professional headshots starting at $29.99. Students must bring their student ID with them, and they will receive a discount coupon upon arrival. They can also download the JCPenney mobile app to start earning $10 rewards.

JCPenney has partnered with career centers across the nation, and this is the second time ETSU will participate in the event.

Director of University Career Services Jeffrey Alston said it was the company’s way of playing a part in college student development.

“This is their contribution from their store and through their brand to be able to help students,” said Alston.

Between 150-160 students attended the event last year, and Alston anticipates more this year, with student mascot Bucky also set to make an appearance.

Alumni who graduated two or less years ago are also welcome at the event, along with faculty and students’ family.

Alston said a person’s image in their professional life can make a powerful statement, but this is possible without losing their authenticity.

“You always want to put your best foot forward, but I also think that students can still be themselves,” said Alston. “I don’t think they have to turn away from who they are as individuals. They can still have their individuality, but within their individuality have that best image.”

Alston said the beauty of working with a brand like JCPenney is the wide variety of sizes and styles, and anything students may not find in-store they can find online with discounted prices still applied.

Alston encourages students to attend the event and take advantage of the discounts.

ETSU Career Services will be holding other events throughout the semester, with an upcoming inclusive career fair March 3, from noon until 3 p.m. in the Culp Center. The fair will focus on diversity and inclusion for marginalized communities, giving them the opportunity to connect with up to 28 companies, though all students are welcome to attend.
