The Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Black Affairs Association are sponsoring auditions for the Rising Star Talent Show. The first half of auditions have already passed, but there will be another round on Feb. 20 in Brown Hall from 5-7 p.m. in room 112.
The talent show will take place on March 4 in the newly renovated D. P. Culp Student Center’s auditorium. So far, three candidates have auditioned.
“You can’t start a fire without a spark,” guitarist Jacob Liam said, quoting the song he was to perform, “Dancing in the Dark” by Bruce Springsteen. “You can’t fulfill your dreams until you take that step.”
Also in attendance was Brendon Tiggs, better known as “Light Up Guy.” Tiggs regularly practices his dance moves in front of the Sherrod Library, becoming a local campus celebrity. He has participated in the talent show since 2017 and is planning to bring his all to this show, which may be his last large scale performance at ETSU.
“If you have a dream, if you have a passion, do what you want to do and pursue that goal,” Tiggs said.
For him, that goal will be pursuing a career in psychology after he graduates this year, helping to spread his message to those in need.
“It was very extraordinary,” said Laura Terry, overseer of the event and director of the Multicultural Center’s programming and outreach. “It was very good to see the excitement from the students for what they were presenting.”
The annual talent show will be one of the first events held in the newly renovated Culp Center. The talent show is March 4 at 7 p.m. in the Culp auditorium.
