March 7: David Kovac will showcase a viola recital among a variety of works, featuring other ETSU faculty members on stage. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Munsey Methodist Church in Johnson City. The event is free.

March 11: The Women on Wednesday series will host an event titled, “Zines! Zines! Zines.” Sage Perrott, a.k.a. Haypeep, is a print maker and educator from West Virginia. She is now an ETSU Department of Art & Design assistant professor. Perrott will discuss zines, her own personal research and teaching, and she will include a brief hands-on activity for those who attend. The event will begin at noon in the Reece Museum. It is free for the public.

March 12: “Independence: The True Story of Dr. Mary Walker” is the story about Mary Edwards Walker, the first female surgeon in the United States and the only woman with a Medal of Honor. In 1864, Walker was assigned to the 52nd Ohio Infantry based in Chattanooga near the Union front lines. She became a prisoner of war and was later traded. She finished her service as a surgeon. Actor Kathie Barnes plays as Walker in this one-person play. The play will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Bud Frank Theatre. Student tickets are $5.

March 27: Story Slams continue this month for the Regeneration: Johnson City Story Slams series. The theme of this Story Slam is “growth spurt.” All participants are welcome, whether listeners or storytellers. After the competition, an open mic will follow for anyone wishing to practice their storytelling skills apart from the night’s theme. The event will be held at JRH Brewing in Johnson City at 8 p.m.

March 27: Guest artist Tanya Gabrielian will be received on campus for special piano recital. Gabrielian received a review by the London Times and celebrated worldwide. She is also an assistant professor of piano at Boston University. Gabrielian will be performing in the Brown Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The event is free with a recommended donation at the door.

March 27-28: The ETSU Opera Theatre will perform “Gianni Schicchi” by Giacomo Puccini. “Gianni Schicchi” is the only comic opera by Puccini and features the famous aria, “O mio babbino caro.” The event will begin both nights at 7:30 p.m. in the Mathes Recital Hall. Student tickets are $5.

March 28: The Southern Ohio Indoor Music Festival is a 2-day event in Wilmington, Ohio, at the Roberts Centre. The ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band will be performing among other nationally recognized bluegrass bands, such as Blue Highway and Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers. Tickets are $65 for 2-day admission and $35 for the Saturday admission.
