The ETSU Honors College Student Council, Allied Health Student Association, Physical Therapy Club and American Medical Student Association will host Carnival for a Cause on March 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the CPA playing fields.

The event coincides with Brain Injury Awareness Month, and all proceeds will go to Crumley House, a local nonprofit brain injury rehabilitation center.

“[Crumley House’s] mission is to get individuals who have sustained brain injuries back to pre-injury functions through various types of rehabilitative services that they offer there,” said Kristen Bennett, an AHSA and HCSC member. “They work very closely with individuals in our community, as well as ETSU, Milligan and other educational facilities. We work very closely with them.”

Some of the activities carnival-goers can look forward to are face painting, balloon animals, “pie a professor,” ring toss and inflatables. There will also be food, such as Barberitos, cotton candy and popcorn. Representatives from Crumley House will speak at the event.

“Everyone’s invited,” said Bennett. “We’re hoping we have a good turnout.”

Bennett got involved with HCSC her freshman year and AHSA her sophomore year, becoming the AHSA secretary her junior year. She did observation hours with Crumley House as a pre-speech therapy student at ETSU.

“That was a really cool experience,” Bennett said. “Crumley House, just seeing what they’re able to do as a nonprofit organization for individuals in our community is just incredible. So, I’m very, very excited to be working with them because it affects me personally. I love their message and what they’re for.”

Bennett said the HCSC has previously done a charity ball event each year, but this year they collaborated with the three other student organizations for a more casual and accessible event for students and families, with everyone within ETSU and the wider community invited.

“I just hope everyone comes out and we have a good turnout,” Bennett said. “We’ve worked really hard to prepare and make it as big an event as possible, and all proceeds go directly to Crumley House.”

Tickets of $1 and $5 values can be purchased the day of the event and may be exchanged for different activities and food. In the event of inclement weather, it will be moved to the CPA basketball courts.
