Kathryn Norungolo, a 2019 Media and Communication graduate with a concentration in journalism, worked with the East Tennessean as an athletics reporter from 2016-17 and athletics editor from 2017 until she graduated.

Now, Kathryn works part-time as an editorial assistant for TOWN Magazine in Greenville, South Carolina. There she assists with all aspects of the editorial team, and she is in charge of social media. She ensures everything goes up on the website for each month’s publication and handles billing and invoicing for staff. She also gets to write for the magazine. Kathryn started with TOWN Magazine as an intern after she graduated, and that led to her current position.

We asked Kathryn how the East Tennessean prepared her for her current role.

Q: What do you enjoy about your job?

A: It’s everything I’ve ever wanted to do. I know I want to work in publishing, and I’ve always leaned toward magazine journalism.

Q: How did the East Tennessean prepare you for your current role?

A: Through my role as editor, I was able to learn a lot of the responsibilities and behind the scenes tools I use today.
