The ETSU Counseling Center is continuing to operate remotely due to the university’s move online in response to COVID-19.

Clinical interns will be unable to provide services, but anyone currently being seen by one may request a senior clinician until the university reopens. Group counseling and Let’s Talk have been cancelled until face-to-face classes resume.

Senior staff are working to provide consultation for students to find local resources. The 24/7 helpline BucsPress2 provides free, confidential counseling over the phone. Other services include telephone counseling and video counseling via Zoom.

An online support group, Coffee & Connection, will offer social connection and tools relating to anxiety, stress management, mindfulness and more. This group begins April 9 from 11 a.m to 1 p.m via Zoom. To participate students must fill out a group consent form by April 8, which can be completed online.

Another resource is a podcast about COVID-19 anxiety. The ETSU Counseling Center website also lists what students can do about COVID-19 under four titles: Get the Facts, Media Coverage, Keep Connected and Seek Help.

“At ETSU we are a family,” said Rebecca Alexander, Associate Director of the ETSU Counseling Center. “Our faculty and staff want to meet the needs of students.”

Alexander said students in need can contact the counseling center at counselingcenter@etsu.edu or leave a message at 423-439-3333. They can also fill out a CARE report, which is an outreach of Student Life & Enrollment.

Dean of Students, Michelle Byrd, said the Counseling Center is looking at how it can have virtual outreach opportunities in the future.
