On Aug. 3, ETSU announced Allie Nicosia as the head coach of the Triathlon team.

Prior to coaching at ETSU, Nicosia served as the head coach at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Her teams finished in the top five in each of her two years at the helm.

Nicosia served as a team captain at the University of South Carolina, where she competed from 2008 to 2012 as a pole vaulter. She plans to use her experience as a former Division I athlete to help her team progress within the Southern Conference.

“I have quite the array of experience,” Nicosia said. “Having been a Division I athlete myself, I know what it takes to reach success at this level.”

“I’ve also coached Division II and Division III,” Nicosia added. “I have mentored anyone from beginners to NCAA qualifiers.”

The well-equipped Nicosia made history by becoming the first individual to coach at all three divisions since the sport’s emergence in 2015.

Having been involved in Triathlon since the beginning, she has watched the sport’s growth and development throughout the years.

Although the Southern Conference has postponed fall athletics for the 2020 season, Nicosia has made the most out of the situation and still has high expectations for the team’s progression.

“I want everyone to work hard and continue to be positive,” Nicosia said. “We will expect the players to get their class work done and show up to work hard for practice. It will be important to have our sight set for the future.”

Nicosia expressed her appreciation for past coaches who have helped her grow as a coach and mentor. Nicosia also motioned gratitude toward ETSU’s faculty for allowing her to coach the Buccaneers.

“I would like to say thank you to Scott Carter for giving me the opportunity to coach here,” Nicosia said. “There’s a big future for this program and I hope to be the one to lead them there.”
