The Bucs volleyball team introduced their newest addition to the coaching staff, Aryn Moura, as the assistant coach on Aug. 4.

Moura looks to bring different perspectives to the Bucs with his work with three other programs — the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, Southwest Minnesota University and High Point University.

Moura grew up in Hawaii, where he played volleyball in high school.

“It is very unorthodox,” said Moura. “Volleyball was very popular in Hawaii for men.”

Moura developed a love for the game and decided to pursue coaching. He graduated from UCCS with a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in human resources and general management. Moura then earned his master’s in education focusing on sports leadership.

Moura gained some experience coaching before coming to ETSU. He aided his alma mater, UCCS, for four seasons, turning the team around from an 11-16 record to 18-10.

At Southwest Minnesota University, Moura coached five Division II All-Americans and two American Volleyball Coaches Association National Players of the Year in 2017 and 2018.

During Moura’s time at High Point University, he oversaw the outside hitters and assisted with serving and receiving, along with defenders training.

Moura will be working with a young team in his first season as the Bucs’ assistant coach. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all ETSU athletics were cancelled for the fall season. Moura plans to aid the team in preparation for the spring.

“We will be working on some fundamentals like trying to figure each other out and looking on the bright side,” Moura said.

Additionally, Moura is excited to bring his observations to the team.

“It is an honor to be a part of a program that invokes pride in the community,” he said.

Holding previous experience and success, Moura looks to bring achievements for the Bucs in the coming years.

“It is great to use your favorite sport as a vehicle for success,” Moura said.
